Music at SDSM&T
The Music Division of the Department of Humanities provides an environment where students develop their creative and artistic abilities, enhancing lifelong career and recreational habits and developing teamwork skills. Students may earn graduation credits in music courses while preparing for their future careers.
SDSM&T music ensembles regularly present their own concerts each semester as well as performing with local area arts entities. SDSM&T has received national and international recognition by ensemble appearances at the National Music Educators National Conference, conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, Association of Irish Musical Societies Choral Competition, Harmonie-Festival in Germany, Jackson Hole (WY) Choral Festival, and the Washington National Cathedral.
SDSM&T music faculty are known for their contributions to entities such as ChoralNet - the Internet Center for Choral Music, SDACDA - the South Dakota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, the South Dakota Music Educators Association, and the South Dakota Bandmasters Association.
