Program Summary
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science degree in Computer Science. The department offers instruction and opportunities for research in artificial intelligence, computer graphics, database design, image processing and computer vision, neural networks, networking, parallel processing, software engineering, and in mathematical foundations of computer science.
Program Description
The Computer Science graduate program offers three tracks for the master’s degree: the thesis option, the non-thesis option, and the course-work-only option. Students interested in further graduate study are encouraged to pursue the thesis. The non-thesis option allows the student to take a broader selection of courses and to concentrate on a significant project rather than on original research. Many students with entrepreneurial aspirations select the non-thesis option as a means of developing software for commercialization. The course-work-only option is primarily designed for students who are already in the workplace and who do not need additional experience writing large projects. Students have found rewarding employment regardless of the option they have chosen.
