You might be able to make an affordable School of Mines education even more so -- we administer more than $11 million in scholarships and need-based aid annually. More than 83 percent of our students receive aid and the average award is $7,200.
And loan debt of School of Mines graduates in 2005-6 was significantly lower than the national average, approximately $22,150.
Your first step is probably to apply for Federal Financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA). For the best results we encourage you to fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible after completing your Federal Tax Return, but no sooner than January 1. Applications that have been received by the Federal Processor by March 15 are considered to have met the priority date. Our school code for the FAFSA is 003470.
The tentative date to inform new incoming freshman students and families of their fall financial aid award is mid-April. These awards will be processed when your financial aid file is considered complete and ready for aid packaging. In order to receive a financial aid award, students must have been accepted for admission to the School of Mines.
International students should contact the college at the School of Mines from which they will be receiving their degree.
More information on financial aid is available on the Financial Aid website.
If at any time you have questions about this process, feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@sdsmt.edu or call toll free (877) 877-6044. We are here to serve you and help make your educational experience at the School of Mines as rewarding as possible.
