Important Steps to Enrollment for Spring 2010 First-Time Transfer Students

· Apply for on-campus housing (or request an exemption) and select a meal plan. Priority deadline, December 18, 2009.

· Submit your Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible.

· If you have not already done so, send your updated official college transcripts to:

· Advanced Credit: Submit CLEP scores (if applicable).

· Submit proof of immunization as soon as possible. 2 MMR's are required; courses will be dropped if not in compliance once the semester begins.

o    Proof may be submitted by copy of:  immunization records stating MMR compliance or DD214; or use on line forms, Immunization Form (Word doc) or  Required Immunization Form (PDF)

· If you have not started your college math sequence, make arrangements for COMPASS placement testing (or accept your placement based on your ACT/SAT score)

o    Also available on Registration Day, January 13, Testing - COMPASS Exam (Math and English Placement) - 8:00 am - 11:30 am and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the east computer lab, lower level, Devereaux Library. You may take this exam at any time during the hours listed.

· New Student Orientation.

o    Devereaux Library, Wednesday, January 13, 8:00am -3:00pm; Come and Go general information sessions

· New Student Registration—The Office of the Registrar and Enrollment Services (RAS) will correspond with all newly admitted students regarding the spring registration process. Please refer to this correspondence for more detailed information or contact RAS, (605) 394-2400

o    Registration Day, report to the third floor of the Devereaux Library 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. At this time you will meet with an academic advisor/mentor that will assist you with the online course registration.

o    After your initial registration at the School of Mines, you will have access to online registration via WebAdvisor.

o    Need your WebAdvisor ID and Password? Stop by the Registration Help Desk on the third floor of the Devereaux Library or in the RAS Office in O'Harra, room 201. Picture identification is required.

o    Complete the 2010 Spring Registration Confirmation available on the student menu on WebAdvisor. If you do not complete this verification form before the deadline of 4:30 pm on Friday, January 15, 2010, you may be dropped from your classes.

· Pay your tuition and fees or make arrangements by 4:30 pm on January 15, 2010.

o    Online payment can be made via WebAdvisor using SDePay

o    Get more with SDepay - view print your eBill; sign up for a payment plan; pay your bill without standing in line using credit card (MasterCard, Discover and American Express), eCheck or your payment plan.

o    Payments may also be made at the Student Accounts and Cashiers Office in Surbeck if you pay with cash or check (sorry no credit cards accepted at the Cashiers Office).

· Register for a parking permit.

o    Online registration at www.sdsmt.edu/services/facilities

· Complete Stafford and/or Perkins Entrance Loan Counseling (if applicable).

o    All first-time borrowers must complete the online loan counseling

· Attend a mandatory Federal Work-Study Session (if applicable).

o    All students who have been awarded Federal Work-Study must attend one of the information sessions

o    Bring a photo ID (Driver’s License or School of Mines ID and Social Security Card)

o    If you want your paycheck direct deposited to a checking or savings account, bring a voided check or savings deposit slip

· Sign up for a TabletPC Orientation held in EEP 252 at the following date/times:

o    January 13, sign up for a session at 2:00 or 6:00.

· Spring semester classes begin Thursday, January 14, 2010 (January 13 for classes beginning after 4:00 pm).
