Orientation

All new students will need to attend an Orientation prior to the start of the semester. This program will prepare students for the challenges they may face their first year of college. Students will have the opportunity to get connected to the campus community and build relationships with other new incoming students. Summer orientation sessions are listed below. Parents are encouraged to attend the Parent Sessions.  Please register for the orientation that best suits your needs.

Orientation: FIRST Connections

FIRST Connections is an overnight orientation experience at the School of Mines designed for first-time freshman. Students stay in Peterson Hall with either their roommate (if they attend the same session) or with other students from their floor/building.  Activities and games are planned to help students get to know one another - as well as learn more about campus and living in the dorms.  The following day, students (and parents) take part in more detailed sessions about how to succeed as a first year student at the School of Mines - meeting faculty, staff and more!  And just one more bonus, students who attend a FIRST Connections session receive a "speed pass" to pick up their Tablet PC in the fall at their convenience!

  • July 29-30, 2012
  • August 23-24, 2012

Register for FIRST Connections on the New Student Checklist -- cost for Connections is $50 and includes lodging, meals, and a FIRST Connections T-Shirt.

*This Orientation takes place immediately after the ResHalls open for occupancy in the Fall.  Content remains primarily the same for students when compared to summer sessions.  Cost for this session is $30

FIRST Adventures - Aug 24-26, 2012

Ready. Set. Go!  FIRST Adventures are a great opportunity to get acquainted with the area and meet many other first year students.  Not only will you have the opportunity to have a fun time and get to know others, you will also meet many faculty and get the "low down" on campus. Included in each Adventure is meals, lodging, and too many extras to list.  Students must attend a FIRST Connections Orientation in order to attend an Adventure.  Click on the link above to visit the Adventures website today!

Orientation: Athletics - TBA (football and volleyball athletes)

Hardrocker football and volleyball players will have the afternoon to move into their residence halls and begin their college transition to the School of Mines. Students will learn the ropes to becoming a balanced athlete and college student. Sessions will be available for parents.

Fall 2012 Student Orientation

All transfer and non-traditional students (a student who graduated from HS four years ago, has children, or is married) as well as anyone unable to attend a previous orientation session will have the opportunity to meet and begin transitioning into college life.  These sessions include the basic essentials necessary to succeed at Mines.  Tablet PCs are distributed during the session.
