Important Steps to Enrollment for Fall 2010 – International Students
· You should have your I-20 form, which you will use to register for the SEVIS program and then apply for the F-1 student visa. Please note that as of September 1, 2004, you are required to pay a fee for the SEVIS program before you apply for a visa. As of October 27, 2008, that fee is $200. This fee is payable to the US government, NOT our university. Instructions are available at https://www.fmjfee.com/index.jhtml.
· Apply for a visa at US Embassy or Consulate
o The visa application process can be complicated and may vary from country to country. General information on visas is available at http://travel.state.gov/visa/. (Use the column on the left for great detailed information.) We also recommend using the services of an EducationUSA office. To find an office near you, go to http://educationusa.state.gov/.
o Once you have obtained your visa, you should notify the Ivanhoe International Center of your travel plans to arrive in the US. We can arrange to have someone meet you at the airport, if you wish.
o If you wish to make contact with other students from your home country who are attending SDSM&T, please notify the Ivanhoe International Center.
o The email address is Ivanhoe@sdsmt.edu.
· Apply for on-campus housing (or request an exemption) and select a meal plan. Priority deadline for early room assignments is April 1, 2010. Go to http://reslife.sdsmt.edu/fallmoveindates.html for information on actual move-in dates.

o If you would prefer to live off campus, we strongly encourage you to wait until you arrive to make living arrangements.
o All students who are within their first two years of high school graduation are required to live on campus, including international students.
· Make arrangements for COMPASS placement testing (or accept your placement) and begin the course registration process (also available at Orientation as well as other locations and dates by appointment). A short orientation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on testing day. COMPASS testing begins at 9 a.m. Please note that if you are an international student outside the US, you may not be able to complete the testing until you arrive on campus. If you are transferring from an intensive English program in the US, please contact a university near you to determine if they offer the test.
