Important Steps to Enrollment for Fall 2009 First-Time Freshmen Students

  • Apply for on-campus housing (or request an exemption) and select a meal plan. FIRST Residential priority deadline, March 1, 2009; priority deadline for early room assignments, April 1, 2009. Go to http://reslife.sdsmt.edu/fallmoveindates.htm for information on actual move-in dates.
  • Submit your Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) after January 1, 2009. The initial priority awarding date is March 15, 2009.
  • Make arrangements for COMPASS placement testing (or accept your placement) and begin the course registration process (also available at Orientation as well as other locations and dates by appointment). COMPASS Day testing dates:
    • March 28 Compass Day 9am
    • April11 Compass Day 9am
    • April 25 Compass Day 9am
    • May 16 Compass Day 9am

  • Submit your course registration survey to register for courses.
  • Send your final official high school and/or college transcripts to:

  • Advanced Credit: Submit AP and/or CLEP scores (if applicable).
  • Submit proof of immunization.
  • Sign up for an Orientation.

    • FIRST Connections I with FIRST Adventure June 14 & 15, 2009 and August 29 & 30, 2009
    • FIRST Connections II (stand alone) June 28 & 29, 2009
    • FIRST Connections II with FIRST Adventure June 28 & 29, 2009 and August 29 & 30, 2009
    • Football/Volleyball Orientation TBD
    • Football/Volleyball Orientation with FIRST Adventure TBD and August 29 & 30, 2009
    • Orientation with FIRST Adventure August 29-30, 2009
    • Mini-Orientation August 31, 2009

  • Pay your tuition and fees or make arrangements by 4:30 pm on September 2, 2009.
    • Online payment can be made via WebAdvisor using SDePay
    • Get more with SDepay - view print your eBill; sign up for a payment plan; pay your bill without standing in line using credit card (MasterCard, Discover and American Express), eCheck or your payment plan.
    • Payments may also be made at the Student Accounts and Cashiers Office in Surbeck if you pay with cash or check (sorry no credit cards accepted at the Cashiers Office).
  • Register for a parking permit.
  • Complete Stafford and/or Perkins Entrance Loan Counseling (if applicable).
  • Attend a mandatory Federal Work-Study Session (if applicable).
    • All students who have been awarded Federal Work-Study must attend one of the information sessions
    • Bring a photo ID (License or School of Mines ID and Social Security Card)
    • If you want your paycheck direct deposited to a checking or savings account, bring a voided check or savings deposit slip

  • Sign up for a TabletPC Orientation held in EEP 252 at the following times/dates:
    • Monday, August 31st at 10:00 AM
    • Monday, August 31st at 2:00 PM
    • Monday, August 31st at 6:00 PM
    • Tuesday, September 1st at 3:00 PM
    • Wednesday, September 1st at 7:00 PM
