Transfer Checklist

Here is some specific information for Transfer Students in addition to the Interactive Checklist.

  • Once your transcripts have been received by Academic and Enrollment Services (AES), an academic advisor will be assigned.  You will receive this information by letter with instructions on how to contact your advisor and how to continue with the registration process via WebAdvisor.  If you have questions regarding this process, contact AES personnel via phone at (605) 394-2400.
  • Apply for on-campus housing (or request an exemption if you graduated from high school in 2006 or 2007) and select a meal plan - priority deadline for early room assignments, April 15
  • Submit your FAFSA - Free Application For Federal Student Aid - initial priority awarding date, March 15
  • Advanced Credit: Submit your AP and/or CLEP results (if applicable)
  • Submit your immunization documentation
  • Registration
    • Contact your advisor to discuss your course schedule. Once you have done this, you may then register online via WebAdvisor from home or from one of the campus computer labs. Your advisor information is available on WebAdvisor for Students, under My Profile. If you need help registering on Registration Day, report to the east computer lab in the lower level of the Devereaux Library.
      • Online registration via WebAdvisor from home or from a campus computer lab. Please note, you will not be allowed to register for a course if you do not meet the pre-requisites for that course.
      • For assistance with registration on Registration Day, go to the east computer lab on the lower level of Devereaux Library - 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
      • Need your WebAdvisor ID and Password? Stop by the Registration Help Desk in the lower level of Devereaux Library on Registration Day or visit the AES Office in O'Harra, room 201. Picture identification is required.
      • Testing--COMPASS Exam (Math and English Placement) on Registration Day--8:00 am - 11:30 am and from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the east computer lab, lower level, Devereaux Library. You may take the exam at any time during the hours listed.

    Getting ready for Fall 2009 -- learn more about when you can move in and how that works

    Pay your tuition and fees.

    •Register for a parking permit.

    •Complete Stafford and/or Perkins Entrance Loan Counseling (if applicable).

    •Attend a mandatory Federal Work-Study Session (if applicable).

    • All students who have been awarded Federal Work-Study must attend one of the information sessions
    • Bring a photo ID (License or School of Mines ID and Social Security Card)
    • If you want your paycheck direct deposited to a checking or savings account, bring a voided check or savings deposit slip

  • Attend Transfer Student Orientation

      • September 2, 7:30 am - noon, Surbeck Center
      • Includes general information, President’s convocation, registration activities, parking permits and ID cards, and fee payment
  • Sign up for a TabletPC Orientation (if applicable) held on September 2, 2008 at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, or 6:00 pm; or September 3, 2008 at 3:00 pm or 7:00 pm.

  • Attend Welcome Week, begins September 2
  • Fall Semester classes begin September 3 (Sept. 2 for evening classes)
